Ooh! Such juicy goodness! This line in particular stood out to me: "Progress is busting out of a too-small narrative and finding more." I would have called it growth, which I think is progress's neighbor, but it's all in the nuance and lens that you're looking through.
Thanks Kathleen! Growth feels right too, so it’s funny that I didn’t choose it from the list. Maybe because I also see progress as those tiny day-to-day things like checking something off my list or reorganizing my closet. Love me some small wins. And seriously, come up to Vancouver and we’ll go eat that pickled eggplant!
Oooh fun. As soon as I saw your word PROGRESS in bold, the word MOVEMENT jumped into my head for me. I’d not uncovered that one before! I also have two ways in for naming values - the first are pieces of character that are more aligned with one’s morality or meaning making, your integrities, your honesties, etc etc. But a very interesting second way I have found thrilling is to look at values as clues or information - what is missing when stuff goes wrong? This is how I discovered how much, like how freaking fundamentally, I value and need fun, something that I was taught to treat as an optional bonus. When fun is absent for too long, doesn’t matter what else is present, my systems will start to fail. I love these exercises 😄 hurrah for finding PROGRESS.
Thanks Katie! I love that a word jumped to mind for you! So interesting what happens when we prime our brains to think this way. And I’m really intrigued by your second method! It makes so much sense to wonder what’s missing. I think I also absorbed the idea that fun is optional. Did I ever see anyone in my family have any??

And B) I want all the food in the picture!
